Safeguarding

Safeguarding & APSCo

At the heart of everything we do!

At Clearly Education we put the safety and well-being of children at the centre of all that we do. It is our utmost priority and we pride ourselves in reaching the highest standards when it comes to safeguarding and compliance.

Clearly are members of APSCo (the Association of Professional Staffing Companies), who are a regulatory body in recruitment, and provide a trusted badge of quality within the sector.  Clearly Education are APSCo Compliance+ accredited, which means that we are audited annually (achieving 99.68% in our most recent audit). Compliance+ accreditation is considered the gold standard within the industry. Its aim is to ensure that accredited members are going above and beyond statutory safeguarding standards.

Every Clearly Teacher, Early Years Practitioner or Teaching Assistant must be 100% compliant before they are put forward to work. This can make the registration process seem longwinded, but as education professionals we all understand the necessity of thorough checking.

All our staff undergo the following safeguarding checks and procedures:

  • Telephone screening
  • A face-to-face interview (usually lasting an hour) with a Clearly Education consultant. This is a chance to find out more about a candidate’s background, their most recent experience, any specialty areas or areas of expertise etc. but also to talk through a candidate’s preferences. This in-depth interview not only acts as a safeguarding measure – but also enables us to effectively match candidates to schools / nurseries once the registration process is complete
  • Candidates are then asked to provide the following:
    a. Proof of identity – Driving Licence, Passport, Birth Certificate
    b. Proof of name change – Marriage Certificate, Deed Poll etc.
    c. Proofs of residence
    d. Proof of National Insurance Number
    e. Proof of the right to work in the UK
    f. Any relevant qualifications (originals), QTS and Teacher Reference Number if applicable
  • An Enhanced DBS check, which must be registered on the Update Service (if candidates do not have a current DBS registered on the Update Service, then a new one will be put in place for them)
  • If applicable – an overseas police check
  • A CV covering a full employment history – with explanations of any gaps in employment
  • TRA check – Teachers only
  • A minimum of two references, covering ALL employment / education / voluntary experience from at least the last two years
  • All candidates sign our Clearly Education Code of Conduct
  • All candidates are asked to sign a confirmation that they have read and understood the latest DFE guidelines “Keeping Children Safe in Education” and the Safer Recruitment Consortium guidance for safer working practice, as well as completing “Prevent” training
  • All Clearly Education staff MUST complete a child safeguarding course prior to starting work with us
  • Two members of the Clearly team will then thoroughly check the candidates pack (containing all references and vetting paperwork), before the candidate is cleared to work. The candidate is issued with an ID badge which they are asked to take to settings with them, along with their DBS certificate
  • Clearly believe that safeguarding should be an on-going process, and as such seek continuous feedback for candidates once they are out working. We run 12 weekly DBS Update Service checks for all current candidates as well as holding an annual face to face review.
